Fur and Manes
An easily recognizable trait for Mawmaw is the fur that covers their bodies. While they do have a smaller layer all over, there are certain areas of them that are covered in thick, long hairs that often become manes. Many say this development took place after they lost their wings, seeing as they needed protection for their throats for if they fought with other creatures as well as against harsh climates, should they be in the snow.
Mawmaw pride themselves on their manes, often styling them and preening them to better display who they are. It's one of the easiest features to see and judge when mawmaw approach one another, and one with a poorly kept mane would be frowned upon by most.
While rare, there are instances where Mawmaw are born without manes. Mawmaw do not shave their manes, as there is no point considering the fur grows back so quickly. There are also cases of mawmaw with excessive fur curling over their whole bodies, and it is generally considered startling to see either of the rare instances.

Rarities
Note:
Mane rarities have NOTHING to do with HAIR STYLING!! Your mawmaw can have all the styling of its bangs/mane it wants, such as braids, accessories, etc! The rarity refers only to the amount of fur on the body, as seen above and below.

CommonAn average mane. Surrounds the whole neck, usually with hair on the forehead/side of the face as well.

UncommonSimilar to the average mane, this mane is a bit more excessive. Does anyone actually need that much fur?
|
RareThe less fur growing on a mawmaw means the rarer it is. Little to no mane except for a few tufts or no fur on the body at all is rare and seen as an oddity.
